HELLO, OUR NAMES ARE MAX AND GOGO
We are Paws2Freedom Forever Foster Dogs, and this is our Story ...
The bromance is real with these two Good Boys!
Max suffered the most horrendous cruelty – he had two of his legs damaged so badly by a tractor-lawnmower accident that he ultimately had to have them surgically removed. His owners didn’t want him once he got injured, and dumped him at the vets in order to be put to sleep. Luckily the vet didn’t give up on him, and after operating on him for free, she took care of him while he was recovering from his extensive surgery. Then, after a short stay in Romanian foster care, he came to us at Paws2Freedom.
Gogo was a tiny puppy when he was found as a stray. He just one day happened to walk off the streets straight into the grounds of the same vet surgery who had just operated on Max. Gogo was exploring his temporary home, met Max, and hasn’t left his side ever since! He immediately cuddled up to Max, and refused to leave. When Max had to go into the surgery for check ups, Gogo would sit outside the door, crying for his best friend. They became completely and utterly inseparable. So when Max went into foster care before coming to Paws2Freedom, we of course arranged for little Gogo to go with him.
Life in the UK has been challenging for these furry besties.
While Max is incredibly agile on his two legs (which are on the same side – how he moves so well is a mystery! The only thing he can’t do is go upstairs, so we carry him up. We looked into every option for Max, but because he doesn’t have enough bone in his leg stump to enable him to have a prosthesis fitted, he’s now occasionally showing signs of discomfort on his front leg (as this takes the largest percentage of the load) and has to wear a leg brace for support at times.
In spite of this, Max is such a spirited little fella that we decided to keep him as an educator dog, to be taken to fundraising events to show people that dogs with severe injuries can have a wonderful quality of life, and should not automatically be put to sleep. Needless to say, he’s an absolute hit at all of the events!
Gogo was so delighted to meet all of his new friends at Paws2Freedom that he went absolutely wild with the joys of life, running around and playing with them non-stop, and developed a bone condition called carpal valgus in one of his legs, which became noticeably deformed. After consulting with vets and speaking with people who have dogs with the same condition, we decided to not put super lively Gogo through the trauma of surgery and long difficult recovery, as he is currently pain-free and happy, and still runs around joyfully with his friends. His condition does not seem to bother him at all.
Both of these beautiful boys require hydro therapy for their legs. Max has already started his, and it helps him enormously, and Gogo will need to start his in the not too distant future.
We hope you consider sponsoring our disabled duo, our gloriously unstoppable boys, and help them to continue rising above their considerable physical challenges, inspiring and educating as they go while they live out their lives in the loving forever-home foster care at Paws2Freedom.
