Nero’s Journey – From Heartbreak to Hope
Meet Nero, a stunning young black Retriever cross with a name as strong and striking as he is 🖤 His story is one of survival, resilience, and the hope for a brighter future. With a name that means “black” and embodies strength, a fitting description for this stunning pup with the warmth of a rich cup of coffee. This boy has lived up to that title in more ways than one.
He’s the only surviving puppy of Aurelia, the Golden Retriever, and is as friendly and playful as they come. Nero’s story, though heartbreaking, is also one of resilience and hope.
Nero had a tough start. Adopted by a family in Bosnia, Nero’s early days were full of play and promise, but as he grew into a teenager, things changed. Nero was never trained or given the boundaries he needed to thrive. What was once a cute, playful young pup became too much for his family, who saw him more as a toy than a living, breathing soul. When Nero started to express his own personality, they grew tired of him and, without a second thought, abandoned him at the Bark Ark Rescue Shelter. A place where survival amongst hundreds of others is tough for any dog, let alone one who had only known the warmth of a home.
Nero was unprepared for the chaos of a crowded shelter, and the stress of his new environment took a toll on him. But fate had a different plan for this sweet boy. We were alerted to Nero’s situation and didn’t hesitate to offer our support. Thanks to the incredible efforts of Bojan from Bark Ark, who drove for hours to get Nero to a trusted doggy boarding facility. And there, waiting for him, was his mother, Aurelia. Nero, who settled in with ease, knowing he was finally in a safe place.
Nero is now in a much calmer environment, surrounded by caring people and other dogs. His playful nature is starting to shine through again as he waits patiently for his forever home in the UK. This sweet and playful soul deserves a family who will love him for who he is, and we’re hopeful that the right home is just around the corner.

Nero is in search of a loving foster or forever home located in Cornwall/Devon. Once we find the right place, he will be able to travel from Bosnia to begin the next chapter of his journey.

Ideal Home
Nero is a typical teenage puppy, bursting with fun, mischief, and sweetness. He’s never received any formal training, so his new home will need to provide the love, guidance, and boundary setting he needs to blossom into the fabulous dog we know he can be! With the right support, he’ll grow into a wonderful companion.
Nero would thrive in a loving home filled with time and patience. Ideally, he’d benefit from having another dog companion – one who is well-balanced and young enough to be a suitable playmate. However, he can also live as an only dog if he has playdates with other furry friends outside the home.
It’s essential that his new garden is enclosed and secure, providing him ample space for play and training, especially during his settling-in period when he can’t be taken for walks just yet.
Given his puppy energy, we can’t place Nero in a home with young children at this stage.
Please note that Nero’s profile is based on the information we’ve received from the shelter and dog hotel. While this gives us valuable insights into his behaviour and needs, we haven’t yet conducted a home assessment for his life in the UK. Therefore, some aspects of his personality and requirements may evolve as he adjusts to a home environment.
To help Nero on his journey to a bright future, we urgently need to find him a dedicated FOSTER/FOREVER HOME. Once we do, he’ll be ready for blood tests and travel on the next available transport.

Behaviour, Temperament, Unique Traits, Training Needs
Nero is a typical teenage pup – full of fun, mischief, and sweetness, soaking up attention wherever he can.
While he hasn’t had any formal training, with the right combination of love, kindness, boundary-setting, and consistent guidance, Nero will grow up to be a fabulous dog.
He thrives with other dogs, so having a well-balanced, playful young enough canine role model and playmate would be a great help in guiding him through his journey.
With the right care and training, Nero has all the potential to blossom into an amazing lifelong companion!
