Rescue Story

Paws2Freedom Dog Rescue Cornwall are searching for loving foster home for Aurelia a Golden Retriever dog, in Devon or Cornwall.

Aurelia is a beautiful name for an even more delightful girl. Her name means “The Golden One,” but sadly, her story didn’t start in a golden light.

For most of her 3 years, Aurelia was kept on a chain, used as a breeding machine to produce puppies for profit. Her life was anything but golden.

Somehow, whether through an accident or from birth, Aurelia’s right front paw and leg are slightly angled, giving her a slight limp. As a Golden Retriever, her previous owner saw her as valuable and attempted surgery to correct it, but the operation failed. Even though the slight deformity didn’t trouble Aurelia at all, without a second thought, he discarded her.

Heartbreakingly, only a few weeks prior she had given birth, but only one of her pups survived.

Bojan from the Bosnian Bark Ark Rescue Shelter was called to take Aurelia in, and she was brought to a busy, stressful shelter. It was a total shock to Aurelia! Purebred dogs like Aurelia often struggle in such environments, and we were asked to help. Although we’re unable to take in new dogs at the moment, we found a loving boarding facility that has cared for some of our dogs before. Bojan, ever so kindly, took Aurelia there, which meant long hours of travel for him. Thanks to his dedication, Aurelia is now well looked after and happy, under the care of Dusica, the experienced and loving lady who runs the doggy hotel.

Ideal Home

Aurelia needs an experienced foster home filled with lots of time and love to help her thrive.

Ideally, she’d have another dog companion, but she could also live as an only dog if she has a play friend outside the home, for when she is ready to venture out.

Her garden must be enclosed and secure, providing ample space for playtime and training, especially during her settling-in period when she can’t be walked outside.

We can’t place her in a home with young children at this stage, though this could change if she’s rehomed later, depending on her full assessment.

Please note that Aurelia’s profile is based on the information we’ve received from the shelter and dog hotel. While this gives us valuable insights into her behaviour and needs, we haven’t yet conducted a home assessment for her life in the UK.

Therefore, some aspects of her personality and requirements may evolve as she adjusts to a home environment.

To give Aurelia the bright future she deserves, we need to find her a dedicated FOSTER HOME. Once we do, she’ll be blood tested and ready to travel on the next available transport.

If you’d like to help Aurelia by fostering, please complete our foster form as a first step.

Before applying, please consider that fostering is different from adopting.
Our foster homes need to be realistic, able to assess the new dog, and work through any challenges. Regular updates are essential, and we provide professional support and cover vet costs. If you’re considering “fostering to adopt,” the same criteria apply as with any foster home.

We can’t accept foster homes with young children, and an enclosed garden is essential to exercise and play in since the dogs can’t be walked for a minimum 1-3 weeks after arrival. Each dog is an individual and some take longer. Please see our New Dog Guide at the end of this page.

Other resident dogs are fine if they are accepting of newcomers and make good role models.

Cats are okay if they have a safe space to retreat to, possibly long-term if needed, in case the new dog doesn’t accept them or vice versa.

These darling dogs have been through so much already, and we want to make sure they don’t get pushed from pillar to post when they arrive.

Things might not always go smoothly, but they always work out in the end.

Please help us give Aurelia the golden life she deserves.🐾💖🏡

Aurelia is very friendly and sweet natured. She absolutely loves food and cuddles.

Please expect to start from the beginning where training is concerned, but she walks well on the lead already.

As with most dogs, especially those who have never known home life, Aurelia will most likely be confused on arrival and will need time to relax before anything else.

Aurelia is a sweet girl and would most likely be ok with children in general, however we are looking for a home without young children to get Aurelia assessed first.

Seems fine on and off lead when she meets other dogs.

She is ok with the resident cat at the dog boarding where she currently lives. No guarantee for new cats though. The resident cat is very used to dogs and does not run!

Not assessed.

Will be done once a foster home has been found and travel can be arranged.

Aurelia is clean in her space but has a lot of freedom outdoors during the day. Never lived in a home before and will need to be shown gently what’s expected of her.
