Junie
Adopt to Foster Cornwall/Devon/Devon Somerset Border
Current Location
Junie is currently overseas in home-based care after leaving the Bark Ark shelter and is preparing for travel to the UK.
Rescue Story
Junie was one of a large number of puppies who were dumped at the Bark Ark shelter in a plastic bucket. Somehow, she and her litter mates survived.
She has only recently left the shelter and is finding the separation from her litter mates, and all the new things around her, quite overwhelming. The lovely lady caring for her took pity on Junie’s worried little face and brought her inside her home, where she is now beginning to learn that people, houses and home comforts can actually be rather nice.
Paws2Freedom spotted Junie’s little face in an appeal and, unsurprisingly, she melted hearts very quickly. Those ears probably had something to do with it!
She is now almost ready to travel to the UK and start the next chapter of her life.
Beagle/Basset/Posavac-type mix
🐾 Hi, I’m Junie🐾
I’m about 3 months old and as you may have noticed, I come with a rather spectacular set of ears.
Best guess is that I’m a Beagle/Basset/Posavac-type mix and I’ll probably grow to around Beagle size, possibly on slightly shorter legs. For now, I’m officially a Junie-cross with deluxe ears!
My start in life wasn’t very nice. I was one of lots of puppies dumped at the Bark Ark shelter in a plastic bucket. But I survived. Phew! Then the lovely Paws2Freedom humans spotted my little face in an appeal and, well… apparently these ears are quite persuasive because I melted their heart! I’m almost ready to travel now and I’m starting to think this whole “new life in the UK” business sounds rather exciting!
I’ve only recently left the shelter and I’m really missing my litter mates. The world still feels quite big and scary, so the lovely lady caring for me took one look at my little face and has taken me into her home while I learn that people, houses and home comforts can actually be rather lovely.
Paws2Freedom are looking for a dog- savvy, kind and patient foster-to-adopt family for me. I’d especially love a sweet, confident resident dog to show me the ropes and be my friend, preferably one young enough to cope with a bit of puppy zooming, playing and general nonsense.
- Sex: Female.
- Age: Approx 3 and a half months.
- Neutered: Too young at present.
- Vaccinated: Junie will have all her required vaccinations and worming completed before travelling to the UK.
- Microchipped: Junie will be microchipped before travelling to the UK.

Foster-to-Adopt
We are looking for a foster-to-home in Cornwall, Devon or around the Devon/Somerset border.
The foster-to-adopt period will allow Junie to settle gradually while her new family and Paws2Freedom get to know the little dog underneath the initially worried puppy exterior.
We are looking for people who will offer Junie the patience, love and understanding she deserves, without rushing her or expecting too much too soon.
Ideal Home
Cornwall/Devon/Devon Somerset border only, please.
Junie needs a kind, patient and loving home with people who understand that she may take time to feel safe and show her true personality.
We would particularly like her to have a confident, gentle resident dog as a role model and playmate.
A secure garden is essential, giving Junie a safe place to explore, play and build her confidence while she settles into her new life.
She will also need a quiet rural or semi-rural location. A busy town environment would be too overwhelming for her, particularly during the early stages of settling in.
Most importantly, Junie needs people who are prepared to fit their lives around the little dog she turns out to be, rather than expecting her to immediately fit into a predetermined lifestyle.
She needs security, consistency, kindness and time.
Because everything will be new to Junie, her new family will need to follow Paws2Freedom’s settling-in guidance and give her plenty of time, space and gentle introductions while she finds her paws.
We believe there is a gorgeous, funny little hound waiting to blossom, and we would love to find the family who will give her that opportunity.

Behaviour, Temperament, Unique Traits, Training Needs
Junie is a sweet little puppy who has had a very unsettled beginning to life.
At present, she is understandably wary of unfamiliar people, noises, places and experiences. Everything is new to her and she is still trying to make sense of the big wide world.
She will need time, patience and very gentle introductions to UK home life. Her new family should not expect her to arrive as a confident, ready-made family dog.
She needs people who will watch and listen to her, allow her confidence to build naturally and help her discover the world at her own pace.
And, of course, she is still a puppy!
As her confidence grows, her family should be prepared for normal puppy behaviour, including chewing, zoomies, training needs and the occasional questionable life choice.
We suspect there is a lovely, funny little character waiting to emerge once Junie feels safe enough to show her true personality.
Child Friendly
Junie could potentially live with older, calm and dog-savvy children who understand that a shy little puppy needs patience and space.
She is likely to be rather unsure when she first arrives and will need plenty of quiet time while she learns that her new world is safe.
A busy household with young children would not be suitable for her.
Dog Friendly
Junie has grown up amongst other dogs, and we feel she would benefit enormously from living with a kind, confident and sweet-natured resident dog who can help show her that the world isn’t quite so scary.
Ideally, her new doggy friend should still be young enough to tolerate and hopefully enjoy a bit of puppy energy, playing, zoomies and the occasional bout of complete nonsense.
A gentle, well-adjusted doggy role model could make a wonderful difference to Junie’s confidence and development.
Cat Friendly
Junie has seen cats from a distance but has not yet had enough interaction with them for us to know how she feels.
Any home with cats would therefore need to be considered carefully, with gentle, sensible introductions.
Livestock/Other
Not yet assessed.
Health
Junie will have all relevant blood tests completed before travelling, including full Brucella canis testing.
Her new family should be aware that their UK vet may recommend repeating her Brucella test once she has been in the UK for around three months.
Although we hope everything will be fine, her adopters will need to budget for this potential additional testing, as well as her future spay.
House Trained
Junie is only a young puppy and her new family should expect to start house training and general puppy training from the beginning.
Patience, consistency and positive reinforcement will be important.
