Jack

For Adoption/Foster Devon/Cornwall

Jack is a tall, lean, leggy boy with a huge heart and an endearing mix of sensitivity and goofiness. He has the kind of personality that makes people smile, being parts gentle soul and playful clown. Life hasn’t always been kind to Jack, but thanks to the patience and dedication of some wonderful people, he has come an incredibly long way and is now ready for his next big adventure: a home of his very own.

Rescue Story

Paws2Freedom - Meet Jack, young male Saluki x German Shepherd looking for a loving forever home in Devon or Cornwall.

Jack was born in Dubai and came to the UK when he was just one year old, full of hope and puppy energy, but without any rescue back-up. His first home didn’t go well; he was crated far too much, misunderstood and left feeling confused and frustrated. Not knowing how else to express his feelings, Jack occasionally nipped, not out of aggression, but as a way of saying “I’m scared and frustrated” and “I need help.” Sadly, this was seen as bad behaviour rather than a young dog struggling to cope.

Jack was then rehomed to a much kinder family, where he formed a lovely friendship with their Husky. Unfortunately they also had a big, bouncy, young pup who was very in Jack’s face and despite everyone’s best efforts, it just wasn’t the right match. Loving him enough to want the best for him, they reached out for help and that’s when Paws2Freedom became involved.

Although full up at the time, Paws2Freedom secured Jack a place at a wonderful specialist kennel where he could decompress, learn and rebuild his confidence. Jack thrived there. His rehabilitation is now complete and he has moved into general boarding, enjoying life while he waits for the right people to come along.

Saluki x German Shepherd

🐾 Hi, I’m Jack🐾

Well hello there, I’m Jack! Tall, lean, a bit leggy and definitely full of heart. I’m the kind of boy who makes people smile and I’ve been told I’m equal parts sensitive soul and playful goofball. Life hasn’t always been easy for me, but thanks to some very kind humans, I’ve come a long way and I’m finally ready for my next big adventure: a home of my very own.

Ideal Home

Cornwall/Devon only, please.

Jack is dreaming of a cosy home with kind humans who will love him for exactly who he is – long legs, big heart and goofy moments included. He would absolutely adore being someone’s one-and-only: best mate, shadow, snuggle buddy and adventure partner all rolled into one. However, if there is a calm, polite female dog in the home who understands personal space, Jack could potentially share with the right match, following careful introductions.

A secure garden would be ideal for zoomies and lounging. And peaceful countryside walks are very much his style. Jack is looking for someone with rescue dog experience who understands that it may take him a little time to fully settle, but once he does, he will give his whole heart. He is not suited to homes with young children, but kind, dog-savvy older teenagers could be a lovely fit.

Jack has done brilliantly in kennels and has learned everything he can there, now he just needs someone to help him complete the next chapter: real home life.

Current Location: Devon, UK (kennels)

Jack is a beautiful blend of classic German Shepherd loyalty and intelligence, combined with the graceful, slightly dramatic flair of a Saluki. He forms strong bonds with his people and genuinely enjoys learning, especially when treats and praise are involved.

He is a sensitive boy who likes to know he is safe and can trust the people around him.  Once that trust is built, he is incredibly loyal and affectionate, following his people with a wagging tail, bright eyes, and a wonderfully goofy grin. He can be a little shy with new people, particularly men, but warms up quickly with calm, gentle introductions.

A daily routine and structure will help Jack feel secure.

Jack has not shown any negative reactions for a very long time now, as he is supported properly and people listen and step up for him when he shows uncertainty. This has made a huge difference to his confidence and emotional security.

Recently, Jack went on a long car journey to Paws2Freedom’s vet for a full health check. He travelled beautifully, earning the title of “star passenger,” and was calm and well-behaved at the vet. He was only slightly nervous during blood tests and handled the experience incredibly well. Afterwards, he even shared pizza with the Paws2Freedom team, who absolutely adored spending time with him.

Jack has good lead manners, enjoys training and always tries his best. He will thrive with positive reinforcement and gentle but consistent guidance in his new home. Rescue dog experience would be beneficial, but more important is a willingness to learn and understand. Jack’s trainer is offering free support to his future family to help with settling in and continuing his progress.

Jack would be best suited to a child-free home, as he needs a calm and predictable environment. That said, older, dog-savvy teenagers who understand how to give a sensitive dog space and time could be a good fit.

Jack would ideally love to be the only dog in his new home, as this helps him feel safe, settled, and relaxed. However, he could potentially live with a calm, well-mannered female dog who is respectful and socially appropriate. Jack has lived with other dogs before and enjoys a good play, as long as things don’t become too chaotic. Any introductions would need to be slow and sensible to ensure the match is right.
