Jack

For Adoption/Foster Devon/Cornwall

Jack is a tall, lean, leggy boy with a big heart and a wonderfully endearing personality. He’s the kind of dog who makes people smile and has often been described as a mix of sensitive soul and playful goofball. Life hasn’t always been easy for Jack, but thanks to some very kind and patient humans, he has come a very long way and is now ready for his next big adventure: a loving home of his own.

Rescue Story

Paws2Freedom - Meet Jack, young male Saluki x German Shepherd looking for a loving forever home in Devon or Cornwall.

Jack was born in Dubai and came to the UK when he was just one year old, full of hope and puppy energy, but sadly without any rescue backing him. His first home didn’t go well. As a young dog he was crated far too much and misunderstood. When he became scared or frustrated he occasionally nipped as a way of communicating that he was overwhelmed. These were not serious incidents, but simply a young dog trying to say he needed help and understanding. Unfortunately this was mis-interpreted as naughty behaviour.

Jack was later placed in a kinder home where he formed a lovely friendship with the resident Husky. However, the household also had a large, very bouncy pup who was often in Jack’s space and despite everyone’s best efforts the situation simply wasn’t the right match.

Wanting the best for him, the family contacted Paws2Freedom. They arranged for Jack to move to a supportive kennel environment where he could decompress, build confidence and learn new coping skills. Jack has thrived there and is now enjoying life while waiting for someone special to offer him the home he deserves.

🐾 Hi, I’m Jack🐾

Well hello there, I’m Jack! Tall, lean, a bit leggy and definitely full of heart. I’m the kind of boy who makes people smile and I’ve been told I’m equal parts sensitive soul and playful goofball. Life hasn’t always been easy for me, but thanks to some very kind humans, I’ve come a long way and I’m finally ready for my next big adventure: a home of my very own.

Ideal Home

Cornwall/Devon only, please.

Jack is dreaming of a cosy home with kind people who will love him exactly as he is: long legs, big heart, a few quirks and all his charming goofy moments. He needs a family who will not expect a perfect dog, but will support him as he continues building confidence in new situations.

He would love to be someone’s one-and-only companion, best friend, shadow, snuggle buddy and adventure partner. However, he may also be able to share a home with a calm, polite female dog who understands personal space and boundaries.

A secure garden would be perfect for relaxing and zoomies, and peaceful countryside walks would suit him beautifully. Jack has never been to the beach before and might be very curious to discover it!

He will need patient humans who understand that settling in may take a little time. Once he feels safe, Jack gives his whole heart. A home without young children would suit him best, though kind, dog-savvy older teenagers may be a good match.

Jack has done brilliantly during his time in kennels. Now he simply needs someone to help him finish the next chapter of his life: a real home.

Current Location: Devon, UK (kennels)

Jack combines the loyalty and intelligence of a German Shepherd with the graceful and expressive nature of a Saluki. He bonds strongly with his people and genuinely enjoys learning, especially when positive reinforcement, treats and praise are involved.

Jack is a sensitive boy who values feeling safe and secure. Once he trusts someone he becomes incredibly loyal and affectionate, following his people with a wagging tail, bright eyes and a wonderfully goofy expression.

He can still be slightly cautious in new situations or if someone or another dog approaches too quickly. In those moments he may bark to let his person know he is unsure. What helps Jack most is having a calm, confident human he can rely on. When his person steps in to protect/reassure him, Jack relaxes and happily lets them handle the situation. With continued support and experience, his confidence continues to grow and these moments have already become much rarer.

Jack recently enjoyed a big outing when he travelled on a long car journey to Paws2Freedom’s vet for a full health check. He behaved beautifully in the car and was even described as a “star passenger.” At the vet he remained calm and cooperative, only feeling a little nervous during blood tests. Afterwards he even shared pizza with the Paws2Freedom team, who thoroughly enjoyed spending time with him.

Training & Support:
Jack has good lead manners, enjoys training and genuinely tries his best. He will thrive with continued positive reinforcement and gentle but consistent guidance in his new home.

Rescue dog experience would be beneficial, though more important is a willingness to understand him and continue building his confidence. Jack’s trainer is also offering free support to his future family to help with settling him in and continuing the excellent progress he has already made.

Jack would be best suited to a child-free home as he thrives in a calm and predictable environment. However, older, dog-savvy teenagers who understand how to give a sensitive dog space and time could potentially be a good fit.

Jack would likely enjoy being the only dog in his home as this helps him feel safe and relaxed. However, he may be able to live with a calm, respectful female dog who understands personal space. Jack has lived with other dogs before and enjoys playing with the right companions, provided things do not become too chaotic. Any introductions would need to be slow and thoughtful.
