PENNY

For Adoption Devon/Cornwall

Rescue Story

Paws2Freedom - Meet Penny, young female Balkan Shepherd x Istrian Rough-Coated Hound looking for a loving forever home in Devon or Cornwall.

Meet Penny, a scruffy-legged sweetheart with a soul full of love and a dash of mischief. At just around a year old, Penny has already shown how resilient and affectionate she is.

She was rescued from the streets of Bosnia, where she had to fend for herself and is now safe in outdoor foster care with another dog and two cats.

In the words of her rescuer:
Penny is a very calm natured dog. She only starts jumping in happiness when she sees someone she knows and is eager to meet. Otherwise, and with other dogs she is very calm. She just wants to play or enjoy the company of other dogs or people. When we go for a walk and I sit down Penny comes to my side immediately and starts pushing her head towards my hand because that way she feels protected and loved. She’s a real attention addict!

Balkan Shepherd x Istrian Rough-Coated Hound, with maybe a sprinkle of Barak Hound

🐾 Hi, I’m Penny🐾

My name’s Penny… though if you ask me, I’m worth at least a pound (probably more with this much scruff and charm).

I’m about a year old, medium-to-large (around 25kg of pure wiggles), spayed, vaccinated, chipped and ready for my big adventure to the UK. Right now, I’m hanging out in Bosnia with another dog and two cats – and yes, we get along just fine.

  • Sex: Female
  • Size: Medium–large (approx. 25kg)
  • Age: Approximately 1 year
  • Neutered: Yes
  • Vaccinated: Yes
  • Microchipped: Yes

A bit more about me:
I haven’t had a chance to live in a proper home yet, which means I’m basically a blank slate, ready to learn everything from “sit” to “don’t steal the socks.” I’m super friendly, goofy and will keep you smiling every single day.

I’ll need a bit of patient training to learn house manners and how to be the best family dog ever, but I promise I’ll give it my all.

Ideal Home

Cornwall/Devon only, please.

Current Location: Outdoor foster in Bosnia.

Penny would love a rural or semi-rural home with a secure garden for zoomies, play and lounging. She’d do brilliantly with another friendly dog but could also thrive as an only dog if she gets enough time, love and stimulation.

Because she’s still young and bouncy, she’s best suited to a home with older children, rather than little tots she might accidentally knock over in her excitement.

With patience, training and plenty of love, Penny promises to repay you with loyalty, laughter and a wagging tail every single day.

If you feel that Penny might be the one for you, please complete the appropriate application form at the bottom of this page.

Application and vetting processes apply.

Penny is still very much a youngster and hasn’t had the chance to experience proper home life yet and that means she’s a blank slate, ready to learn everything about being a family dog. Her playful, friendly nature shines through and she’s the kind of girl who’ll keep you smiling with her goofy antics.

We think Penny may be a mix of Balkan Shepherd (loyal and gentle), Istrian Rough-Coated Hound (energetic and sociable), and maybe even a sprinkle of Barak Hound (adventurous and spirited). That means she could grow into a loyal, fun-loving companion who enjoys both cuddle time and countryside adventures.

Penny would benefit from patient training to help her learn house manners, basic cues and all the joys of being a beloved companion. She’s eager, bright and will blossom with the right guidance.

Yes, best with older children as she’s young and bouncy.

Yes, currently sharing her space with another dog.

Yes, currently living with two cats.

Not tested.

Will be tested before travel for Heartworm, Leishmania, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, Babesia, Giardia and Brucella Canis.

Not tested as she lives outdoors in foster, so she’ll need a bit of guidance for UK home life.
