ADOPTER EXPERIENCES
CHERRY - WAS CHARLIE
We had been looking for another dog to keep our Border Collie Neddy company. After some research we found the Paws2Freedom Facebook page and a little border collie girl caught our eye. She had been with Paws2Freedom for about 18 months and they had done a lot of training with her and shown her so much love but unfortunately there was no successful adoptions for her, due to her unique temperament and independent spirit. We made contact and arranged to meet her a few weeks later.
Cherry (formally Charlie) met us with her fosters and the Paws2Freedom team.

She was a lovely girl and we fell in love at first sight, however Cherry was not overly interested in us and was more interested in her tennis ball…

We took her home that day and she was a perfect passenger on the journey to her new home.

We had been told her backstory before Paws2Freedom rescued her and understood she was going to need a lot of ongoing training and time to adjust.

Cherry was extremely restless and likely overwhelmed by the changes causing her to bark, jump off furniture and be generally very unsettled out of her crate. We went right back to basics for her training and for the first few weeks she spent most of her time in the crate and only came out to go in the garden for short periods at a time. It was so rewarding to see this lovely girl change bit by bit.

Over time she was slowly introduced to new rooms at home and spending more time out of her crate, she loved playing with toys and would do anything for a treat!

Cherry was not a cuddly dog to start with and even though she enjoyed a back scratch she would not sit with us and have cuddles. This all changed when one evening she curled up on our lap and fell asleep, ever since then she loves cuddles any chance she gets and she became a bit of a lap dog.

Cherry is a sensitive soul and needed a lot of time, patience and love to come out of her shell. She has been a wonderful addition to our little family and has settled in beautifully.

If she’s not playing with her toys and Neddy or getting cuddles on the couch she’s outside looking for blackberries and fruit from the bushes.

She is full of life, love and happiness. She was a lot of work and it took her a long time to settle in but she was worth it all.

Cherry has come so far and has recently come second at a local charity dog show for ‘Best Rescue’, we think it was her beautiful big black eyes that wooed the judges!

“Thank you to Susan and all the Paws2Freedom team for all the love and time you gave Cherry and support you have given us since she came to live with us.”
